IMANI BROOKS-WHEELER

Speaking
When I was seven-years old, I staged a one-child protest to change my name to something more recognizable. The loudly pronounced faux pas on the school’s PA systems were enough to put myself in an embarrassment-induced time out. I had already resolved that “Imani” was too difficult to articulate. Although I gave a convincing monologue, even referencing The Cosby Show’s Denise as a more palatable choice, my mother was not moved by my shenanigans. Her delicate explanation of my personal brand halted the spontaneous revolution.
Then, something happened.
The spark I felt as I gave my mother that persuasive albeit ineffective speech was enough to pique my interest in spelling bees, oratorical contests, and all things performative. The road trips to Allegheny and Poughkeepsie, where I intrigued captive audiences and returned home decorated with ribbons and trophies, became my norm.
That fearless little girl learned that speaking has the ability to leave a powerful imprint on someone’s soul. My goal is to change the trajectory of people's lives around the world with humor, intention and transparency. From topics centered around living outside of the margins to healing well through complex grief to giving Jesus good PR (for a change), the options are endless.
I look forward to collaborating with you and bringing immense value to your life!
